Dr Gray took early retirement from the HSE in 1995 where he was then a Principal Inspector in the Offshore Safety Division.

His career in health and safety spans some 31 years, including 21 years in the HSE and Department of Energy, and has covered a wide range of industries, including general manufacturing, public utilities, universities, construction and the offshore oil and gas industry. Within the latter industry he has experience of both the UK and Norwegian sectors.

He has had considerable experience of auditing management systems and investigating accidents in a wide range of industries and of training personnel in the techniques of auditing and accident investigation.

He is an Associate Lecturer of the Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, teaching health and safety related modules for MSc's in Asset Management and Oil and Gas Engineering.

Dr Gray is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Health, a Fellow of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health, a Registered Safety Practitioner and a member of the British Occupational Hygiene Society.
